Charge
The Digitization Task Force will select the digitization standards for BLC digitization projects, identify 2-3 digitization projects and possible funding partners and recommend the technology needed for the consortium's first cooperative digitization project. The Task Force will also organize a 1-day digitization workshop and recommend a model for future workshops.
Action Items:
- Develop 2-3 digitization project ideas from which the Board will select one for the Grant Writing Team to write a proposal.
- M. Sandler's "Digitization Proposal to the BLC" will be shared with the Task Force but the projects identified need not be limited to his proposal
- Identify significant, meaningful resources to be digitized from at least 3 member libraries for each project
- Indicate the level of complexity for each project for the Board to decide whether to start with a simple digitization project or choose a more complex project as the consortium's first digitization project
- Select the digitization standards for selected BLC cooperative digitization projects.
- Recommend any technology needed for participating members to work together for each digitization project identified.
- Identify possible funding partners for each digitization project.
- Organize a 1-day digitization workshop based on the digitization project selected by the Board. Recommend a model for developing future workshops.
Communication: The Task Force will communicate with the BLC community through news items on the BLC's web page, BLC-L, and with all appropriate COI's, especially to gather input on digitization ideas. The Task Force will submit written reports.
Staff Development: The Task Force will organize a 1-day workshop based on the digitization project selected by the Board. Recommend a model for developing future workshops.
BLC Goals: The Digitization Task Force charge is aligned with the following BLC goals:
- Goal 1: Entrepreneurial Initiative: The BLC Portal, because a portal would be created for the digitization project on the web
- Goal 2: Staff Development, because it will provide staff members of BLC institutions with a workshop that will inform them about current developments and best practices in digitization
- Goal 4: Resource Sharing, because the project will go beyond traditional print and online resources by creating a consortium digitization project which will be shared on the web
