Charge

Investigate assessment and evaluation measures and/or tools that the BLC can use to measure the success of consortium initiatives. Arrange for workshop(s) on current developments and best practices in output measures and/or tools. Make recommendations, if deemed appropriate, on annual output measures that will provide evidence of BLC achievements (in addition to Resource Sharing Statistics that will be collected by the BLC Office FY03-).

Action Items:
  1. Identify and monitor assessment and evaluation measures and/or tools being developed by other library agencies such as other consortiums, ARL, ULG (University Library Group) and Oberlin Group (private colleges) such as ARL's LibQual+ and E-Metrics
  2. Determine what assessment and evaluation measures and/or tools BLC members use or plan to use
  3. Contact NEASC to learn about their plans for assessment and evaluation measures and/or tools as part of their current and future accrediting standards
  4. Select the most appropriate source for the workshops and make arrangements
  5. If deemed appropriate, recommend annual output measures that provide evidence of BLC's consortial achievements
  6. Recommend one project in which the BLC should participate
Communication:

The Task Force will communicate with the BLC community through news items on the BLC's web page, BLC-L, and any COI that may have interest in the project. The Task Force will work closely with the BLC Office to ensure that information about the project is distributed.

Staff Development:

The Task Force will hold at least one program for the BLC community on this topic.

Goal:

This is an additional priority identified at the BLC Planning Retreat in June 2002. This task force is aligned with the BLC Goal: Staff Development and Training, "To provide…programs that will inform them about current developments and best practices…" And specifically, "To develop annually a selection of learning opportunities based upon the needs of member institutions…"
