The use of copyrighted works is an integral part of teaching and research.  Yet, the complex copyright law sometimes appears to prohibit the use of such works particularly when the work is in a digital format.  Part of the session will focus on three exceptions to the U.S. Copyright law, fair use, education and libraries, and how faculty and librarians can utilize these exceptions to achieve their desired outcomes.   However, there is also a flip side to the copyright equation and that is faculty ownership of copyrighted works.  Managing one’s copyright has become increasingly important and this session will address those issues as well.   An update on current copyright litigation in higher education will also be provided as well as time for questions from attendees.

This presentation is sponsored by the University of Connecticut Libraries
