Cooperative Collection Development Initiative-Visiting Program

I am pleased to announced that Peter Allison, Principal Bibliographer and Team Leader for Collection Development at the University of Connecticut Libraries has been designated a visiting program officer for cooperative collection development by the Board of the Boston Library Consortium, Inc.

The BLC Board of Directors approved the Visiting Program Officer for collection development at its December meeting. Peter will investigate the potential for interested BLC members to engage in cooperative collection development, including (but not necessarily limited to) formally documented areas of collecting emphasis and stewardship of archival print copies of record.

He hopes to hold open discussions with interested staff on the changing nature of collection development in a digital environment; possible opportunities for cooperative collection development; and local experience with cooperative efforts, within BLC or elsewhere. He would also like to meet with appropriate administrators to gather further information about local collection development practices and collecting emphases as well as to gauge their level of interest in various possible cooperative activities.
